I understand the the on-prem solution works way better and is basically the same. We found this out through watching the logs with a JAMF engineer, it'll find the user in its lookup but won't return results in enrollment.
Point it at the top of the domain (2012 R2 level) and it doesn't work properly. And then it's limited to scoping it down to a specific OU where users are in AD.

Had to build an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server and install their NetSUS software and configure it. Kind of odd and disappointing in 2017 to not support traversing NAT firewalls. Their Windows-based software doesn't support NAT firewalls, which is what our DMZ uses (it can't bind to the IP to run the interface) and is pretty common. We don't have an Azure AD connection so it was all trying to get their software connected to our internal AD without exposing AD to the internet (which they wanted me to do like it wasn't a big deal and I said no). We have no other Apple hardware or infrastructure of any kind and no one in IT that has experience managing them. The answer then was essentially that if you were serious about it you had to get a 3rd party product because while you could make it work in SCCM it was so much extra work and effort you'd spend more time fighting with the few Apple devices then the entire rest of your environment combined.ĭoes anyone have a good link or quick rundown from personal experience of what SCCM can do in regards to managing those devices, if anything? What is a reasonable expectation of getting working without a huge additional investement in time? The initial push is apparently for staff/faculty use and we're an education environment if that matters. Currently I really have no idea as I haven't looked into this in years.
I was asked what SCCM can do currently in regards to Apple products with very little information of what they want to do with them. Just got the information many of us dread, a new very higher up person is pushing hard asking about "testing" some Apple devices, likely iPad Pros in this case. As a general rule, if someone has flair, they almost definitely know what they're talking about.
